Abstract

Abstract In 2 Cu 2 O 5 photocatalyst was prepared by the sol-gel method which produced worm-like nanoparticles. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurement and Rietveld structural refinement were applied to elucidate the phase formation and structural properties. The morphological properties of the surfaces were measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The nanoparticles present optical absorption from both the host lattices and the d–d transitions of distorted Cu 2+ octahedra in UV–vis light wavelength region. The band-gap of In 2 Cu 2 O 5 photocatalyst is about 2.31 eV. The photocatalytic abilities of In 2 Cu 2 O 5 nanoparticles were verified by photo-degradation of methylene blue (MB) solutions irradiated by visible light. The energy potential and bad structure were discussed. In 2 Cu 2 O 5 nanoparticles have the potential application for the efficient photocatalysis on MB dye solutions.
