Abstract

Abstract In this study, novel high-temperature NTC thermal-sensitive ceramics, Ba3Co1-xFexNb2O9 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3), were synthesised by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The microstructure, structural stability, and electrical properties of the as-prepared ceramic samples which were obtained by sintering at 1300 ℃ for 1 h in air were investigated. XRD and TG/DSC results demonstrated that Ba3Co1-xFexNb2O9 ceramics have a hexagonal perovskite structure with excellent structural stability at high temperature. All the samples exhibited the typical NTC effect over a wide temperature range (ambient~500 ℃). Moreover, with the increase in Fe content, the standard resistivity (ρ25), thermal constant (B25/85), and activation energy (Ea) increase monotonously. When Fe content was x ≥ 0.1, Ba3CoNb2O9-based NTC ceramics with high density and good electrical properties could be obtained; also, standard resistivity and thermal constant were in the range 1.57 kΩ cm~6.58 MΩ cm and 3466~4833 K, respectively, which are well-suited for applications in the temperature range from ambient to 500 ℃.
