Transforming MoO3 macrorods into bismuth molybdate nanoplates via the surfactant-assisted hydrothermal method
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract Using h -MoO 3 macrorods as precursors in surfactant-assisted processes, γ-Bi 2 MoO 6 nanoplates with square laminar morphologies have been successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. The photodegradation efficiency of the as-prepared samples was investigated by monitoring the degradation of Rhodamine B and methylene blue under visible light irradiation. The experimental results indicated that γ-Bi 2 MoO 6 nanoplates with the exposed {0 1 0} facets show higher photocatalytic activity than other Bi 2 MoO 6 nanoplates under visible light irradiation due to the enhanced visible light absorption, improved separation of photogenerated charge carriers and the specific exposed facets structure. In addition, the possible formation mechanism and photocatalytic mechanism were presented on the basis of the experimental results. The novel synthetic strategy presented here gives a promising route towards the development of bismuth-based oxysalts semiconductor in photocatalysis.
