Abstract

Abstract Carbon coated on the surface of LiFePO4 assumes different forms based on the method of synthesis. In this study, carbon-coated LiFePO4 was prepared using dry and wet processing, with the latter process producing more uniform carbon-coated LiFePO4. The different surface forms of the coated carbon showed different interactions between the oxygen of LiFePO4 and the coated carbon. The uniform carbon coating efficiently decreased particle size, aggregation, and crystalline growth. Moreover, at 0.1 C-rate, the LiFePO4 prepared by wet processing exhibited high initial capacity with stable cycling, achieving 98% of its theoretical capacity. The uniform carbon coating resulted in enhanced rate capability of the LiFePO4 battery, reaching 143.8 mAh g−1 at 1 C.
