Photocatalytic production of hydroxyl radical by PbSe quantum dot nanocomposite hydrogel
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract In this study, a novel PbSe quantum dots nanocomposites hydrogel (PbSe-QDs/NCH) was synthesized based on chitosan, acrylamide (AM), and acrylic acid (AA) by radical polymerization followed by incorporation of lead selenide quantum dots within the hydrogel. The structure of PbSe-QDs/NCH photocatalyst was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The photocatalytic activity of the PbSe-QDs/NCH was investigated based on the production of hydroxyl radical, which was determined by the fluorescence technique. The advantage of this method is the study of the photocatalytic activity of the NCHs regardless of their adsorption properties. The effect of different factors such as time of reaction, amount of loaded metal ion, dose of PbSe-QDs/NCH, and light intensity on the productionof hydroxyl radical was investigated. It was observed that the synthesized photocatalyst has a good ability to produce hydroxyl radicals. The amount of hydroxyl radical produced under the optimum condition is about 19.89 μM. The reusability of the PbSe-QDs/NCH in the production of hydroxyl radicals was investigated. The results showed that PbSe-QDs/NCH maintains a good level of activity during reuse.
