Ultrapure titanium electrodes for next-generation high-electric-field thermionic electron guns
Source abstract
Abstract
An accelerating electrode fabricated from ultrapure titanium (99.999% purity), processed by hot isostatic pressing, chemical etching, and rinsing in ultrapure water, was developed for a high-electric-field thermionic electron gun. A maximum electric field of 49 MV/m was achieved for a test electrode with a 10 mm gap at a pulsed voltage of 470 kV during the high-voltage conditioning at room temperature. This first result is promising for improving the electron-beam brightness of the next-generation thermionic electron guns.
