Abstract

This study focuses on the application of the multibeam bathymetric system in modern marine surveying, which has significant advantages in ocean engineering, geology exploration, and channel measurement. Although there have been remarkable technological advancements, multibeam bathymetric systems still face challenges such as computational load and model generalization ability. This research aims to optimize the layout of measuring lines, reduce operational costs, and improve data processing efficiency through a combination of mathematical modeling and computer programming. This study innovatively constructs models for coverage width, overlap rate, and shortest line placement based on trigonometric theorems and principles of computational geometry. Python programming is used to automate and simulate data processing, significantly improving both its efficiency and accuracy. The results show that the spacing between measuring lines should be adjusted according to water depth changes to optimize coverage width and overlap rates; using S-shaped routes for measuring lines along north–south directions can effectively reduce the number of measuring lines and lower measurement costs. This study provides new insights into enhancing the efficiency and precision of multibeam bathymetric systems, demonstrating potential synergies with adaptive interval design and full beam coverage techniques to further enhance the accuracy and efficiency of underwater terrain mapping.
