Embedding Bifurcations into Pneumatic Artificial Muscle (Adv. Sci. 25/2024)
Source abstract
Abstract
Pneumatic Artificial Muscle In article number 2304402, Nozomi Akashi, Ryo Sakurai, Kohei Nakajima, and co-workers discovered that complex dynamics in a pneumatic artificial muscle can be exploited as a computer. Thereby, they demonstrate that various patterns and their changing structures can be embedded into the artificial muscle by using its computational capabilities. On the cover, the hand composed of artificial muscles is drawing a picture by controlling itself autonomously. The brain is located behind the door and far from the hand. It symbolizes the autonomy of the body. Both the hand and brain are composed of artificial muscles, and it suggests that they have the same computational capabilities.
