Abstract

In article number 1900390, Christian A. Nijhuis and co-workers report molecular control over plasmon excitation via through-bond tunneling in tunnel junctions based on self-assembled monolayers. In these junctions, intermittent light emission can be turned-off by changing the rigidity of the molecular backbone: junctions with stiff conjugated molecular backbones result in stable excitation of plasmons in sharp contrast to those junctions with flexible aliphatic molecules that blink.
