Red Light‐Triggered Anti‐Angiogenic and Photodynamic Combination Therapy of Age‐Related Macular Degeneration (Adv. Sci. 31/2023)
Source abstract
Abstract
Red Light-Activated Combination Therapy of Eye Diseases In article number 2301985, Xiaoling Liang, Weiping Wang, and co-workers report a red-light-triggered intraocular drug release strategy to achieve combination treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration. Intravenous administration of a photoactivatable nanosystem followed by light irradiation to the diseased eye leads to intraocular release of an anti-angiogenic agent, together with selective neo-vessels occlusion by photodynamic therapy. This study provides a promising paradigm for minimally invasive administration of combination therapeutic agents for angiogenic eye diseases.
