Gate‐Tunable Graphene Optical Modulator on Fiber Tip: Design and Demonstration (Advanced Optical Materials 22/2022)
Source abstract
Abstract
Electro-optical modulators are typically based on on-chip waveguide structures, with packaging size in the order of centimeters and inevitable coupling loss when connected to optical fiber systems. In article number 2201724, Fei Xu and co-workers design and demonstrate a gate-tunable graphene optical modulator directly fabricated on the tip of an optical fiber for the first time. By introducing electron beam lithography technique onto the fiber facet, the patterned transistor configuration enables continuous optical reflectance tunability controlled by gate voltage. With an all-fiber scheme and packaging size of micrometers level, this work effectively broadens the functionality of the integrated and miniaturized lab-on-fiber concept.
