Synergistic Role of Perovskite Quantum Dots in Organic Solar Cells: Enhancing Light Absorption, Exciton Transfer, and Interfacial Dipole Engineering
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract An organic solar cell (OSC) is reported incorporating a FAPbI₃ perovskite quantum dot (PQD) cathode interlayer, achieving a significant enhancement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) and operational stability. Integration of FAPbI₃ PQDs cathode interlayer leads to broadened absorption from the ultraviolet (UV) to near‐infrared (NIR) region, complementing the PM6:Y6BO active layer and enhancing exciton generation. Optical and photoluminescence (PL) studies reveal that the PQD interlayer enables efficient energy transfer to the organic active layer through Forster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET), enhancing exciton generation and photocurrent. Additionally, the interfacial dipole moment introduced by the PQDs optimizes energy level alignment, facilitating smooth charge transport and significantly improving the overall performance of the OSC. As a result, the PQD/organic hybrid device exhibits a PCE improvement from 15.7 to 18%. Moreover, the OSCs incorporating FAPbI₃ PQDs demonstrate superior stability, retaining 95% of their initial PCE after one week and 85% after 16 days, whereas the pristine device degrades to 85% within just one week. These findings highlight the potential of FAPbI₃ PQDs as a multifunctional cathode interlayer, paving the way for more efficient and stable OSCs.
