Abstract

Non-invasive hyperpolarized xenon magnetic resonance imaging provides very high sensitivity. On page 40 L. Schröder and colleagues apply for the first time a nanoparticulate carrier to deliver a xenon-based magnetic resonance contrast agent for selective human brain endothelial cell targeting. The carrier not only improves the biocompatibility and solubility of the xenon contrast agent but it also generates magnetic resonance imaging contrast at nanomolar concentration.
