Abstract

Traditional biomedical metallic materials, such as Ti, Ti alloys, and CoCrMo alloy, have high density and relatively limited biocompatibility, which would affect human bone repair. In this work, the CoCrMo/hydroxyapatite (HA) composite for biomedical applications is synthesized by the three-dimensional (3D) printing technology. The biocompatibility, blood compatibility, and mechanical properties are investigated in detail. The composite with 50 vol % HA exhibits good biocompatibility and blood compatibility, superior to commonly used medical materials. And this advantage tends to be more obvious with the extension of the duration. Meanwhile, the CoCrMo/HA composite can maintain a compressive strength of 724.4 MPa, which meets the requirement of human bone repair. This work provides a reference for the preparation of biomedical composites, and the as-formed composites may become a new choice for bone repair.
