Synthesis of novel antioxidant carboxymethylcellulose nanocomposites for Cu–Ni–Mo-based steel foams
Source abstract
Abstract
Cellulose/inorganic compound-based nanomaterials have attracted considerable interest due to their remarkable physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. These characteristics include high anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-corrosion, and anti-cancer performances and making them suitable for application as surface coatings. In this study, novel carboxymethylcellulose/tannic acid:SiO2 nanocomposites (CMC/TA:SiO2 NCs) and carboxymethylcellulose/palmitic acid:SiO2 nanocomposites (CMC/PA:SiO2 NCs) were developed as surface coating materials on Cu-Ni-Mo-based steel foams. Various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry were used to characterize all NCs. The surface results confirmed that the prepared CMC/TA:SiO2 NCs and CMC/PA:SiO2 NCs had uniform distributions with diameters of 66-118 nm and < 50 nm, respectively. According to the experimental results, the CMC/TA:SiO2 NCs and CMC/PA:SiO2 NCs exhibited high thermal stabilities and high antioxidant activities. Furthermore, all NCs were utilized as surface coating materials for the functionalization of Cu-Ni-Mo-based steel foams. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the morphology of CMC-based NCs on the surface coatings of Cu-Ni-Mo-based steel foams. Based on the surface analysis, it was concluded that coating with CMC NCs on Cu-Ni-Mo-based steel foams was successful. The homogeneous distribution and small particle sizes of the nanostructures provided long-term stability and a homogeneous coating.
