Ultrastable Perovskite Quantum Dots for Enhanced Bioimaging
Source abstract
Abstract
Fluorescence bioimaging is a critical tool in modern medicine, enabling the visualization of biological processes with high sensitivity and specificity. While metal halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) hold significant promise as fluorescent contrast agents due to their superior photophysical properties, such as near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield and tunable emission, their instability in biological environments and potential toxicity have limited their applications. In this study, we present ultrastable and biocompatible double-layer SiO 2 -coated PQDs designed for intracellular bioimaging. The dense SiO 2 coating effectively mitigates water permeation and prevents toxic ion release, thereby ensuring long-term stability, biocompatibility, and sustained bioimaging performance. A systematic biocompatibility evaluation across multiple cell lines demonstrates their suitability for bioimaging. This research introduces a new class of PQDs with enhanced stability and biocompatibility, paving the way for their future applications in bioimaging and biosensing technologies.
