Abstract

Recently, perovskites have appeared as promising materials for optical sensing because of their excellent optoelectronic characteristics. However, despite their advantages, addressing the stability issue for commercialization continues to pose a challenge. In this regard, we have demonstrated a perovskite-based broadband photodetector fabrication approach that incorporates Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework (ZIF-8) with quantum dots based of Cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr 3 QDs), achieving unprecedented stability and performance in the spectrum of UV to NIR region. The composite of ZIF-8 with CsPbBr 3 QDs combines the outstanding characteristics of CsPbBr 3 QDs, including high absorption and tunable bandgap, whereby the ZIF-8 framework provides enhanced mechanical integrity with robustness and environmental encapsulation. The porous structure of ZIF-8 accommodates CsPbBr 3 QDs to prevent degradation from atmospheric O 2 and H 2 O while allowing for efficient transport of charge carriers. The fabricated photodetector shows a responsivity of 170 mA/W and a specific detectivity of 1.6 × 10 10 Jones at 532 nm light. In addition, the device possesses excellent long-time stability, retaining about ∼77% of the initial performance after a period of 40 days of air exposure. This innovative integration of ZIF-8 with CsPbBr 3 QDs marks a departure from the long-known environmental instability of perovskite photodetectors and opens up possibilities for advanced optoelectronic applications. This study sets a benchmark in the design and performance of photodetectors by offering an effective and comprehensive solution to the long-standing environmental instability of perovskite photodetectors. It combines the versatility of metal–organic frameworks with the best optoelectronic properties offered by QDs.
