Abstract

Hybrid organolead halide perovskite–based solar cells have demonstrated themselves to be potential candidates to overcome the present energy crisis, and numerous experiments have proven this hope. Low-cost processing, excellent solvent engineering, ambipolar nature and high open circuit voltage of these organometal halide perovskites have generated great interest in recent years. The unprecedented efficiency outcome of over 27% (laboratory scale) within a very short duration strengthen this expectation among material scientists. Also, the viability of these materials for the flexible roll-to-roll solar cell fabrication indeed sheds light on future energy demand. This chapter summarizes basic trends of hybrid organolead halide perovskite solar cells and the perspectives of these materials for future solar energy harvesting applications. Then, various device approaches of hybrid perovskite solar cells with different materials are concisely addressed.
