Abstract

Appropriate management of the most hazardous chemicals, chemical warfare agents (CWAs), is a critical priority in chemical protection. This study demonstrates stretchable polymer and metal-organic framework (MOF) composites designed for sustainable CWA degradation. By incorporating a polymeric cocatalyst with sustainable properties, we engineered cross-linked polymer-MOF composites with hard and soft segments to achieve exceptional stretchability. The resulting UiO-66 and Polymer Materials (UPMs) can withstand 100% elongation and maintain their structure. Notably, UPM-30 completely degraded the CWA simulant methyl paraoxon within 2 h, while retaining catalytic activity over three recycling cycles. More importantly, this catalytic activity was achieved under nonbuffered conditions, in contrast to many previously reported systems that rely on strongly basic buffer solutions. This work offers a transformative approach to creating flexible, durable materials with efficient and repeatable CWA destruction capabilities, paving the way for innovative protective technologies.
