Synthesis of sillimanite whiskers
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract Sillimanite whiskers were successfully synthesized by thermal decomposition of ammonium hexafluoroaluminate (AHA) at temperature as low as 580 °C. The phase composition and microstructure of the synthesized whiskers were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The diameters of the sillimanite whiskers ranged from dozens of nanometers to 200 nm, with the aspect ratio above 10. The experimental results showed that this synthesis method is a very promising, simple and energy-saving approach to prepare sillimanite whisker.
