Abstract

Abstract In this work, we report an in-situ generated multiphase phosphor Mg0.6-xAl2Si1.8O7.2: xEu2+ (MASO: xEu), which has a broad cover-region emission spectrum and a thermal anti-quenching (TAQ) property. The full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the emission spectrum of phosphor has been broadened from 78 nm to 163 nm. The spectrum broadening was ascribed to the generation of new co-existed phases and the proportion change of co-existed phases in the single-particle of phosphor. On the other hand, the emission intensity at ~ 496 nm increases by 12% with the environmental temperature increasing from 298 K to 473 K, which was corresponded to the shortened relaxation process of photo-excited electrons in the excited state of the activator Eu2+ and the energy transfer from electron-hole pairs at thermally activated defect levels to the 5d-band of Eu2+. Due to the broad emission spectrum and thermal anti-quenching properties, this multiphase MASO: xEu can be a potential candidate for NUV pc-WLEDs.
