Abstract
Abstract In this work, the fast Li-ion conductor Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 was used for the first time as an effective coating material for a Li 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C cathode for lithium-ion batteries. A carbon and Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 hybrid coating imparted favorable properties to the Li 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 electrode, enhancing the transport of both electrons and Li-ions at the electrode's surface. The as-prepared composite exhibited an excellent rate capability and a good cycling stability in the potential range from 3.0 V to 4.8 V (vs. Li + /Li). It displayed high discharge capacities of 177.3 mAh g −1 and 171.5 mAh g −1 at 1 C and 2 C, respectively. Even at a higher rate of 5 C, it delivered a discharge capacity of 162.1 mAh g −1 , with capacity retention of 98.6% after 20 cycles. Based on these results, significant insights were made into the coating's role in improving the electrochemical performance of the electrode, and the potential applications of this solid-state electrolyte as an effective coating material.
