Abstract

A novel white-blue emitting long persistent phosphor of Ca2Ge7O16:Tb3+ has been prepared by high temperature solid-state reaction. The persistent energy transfer (PET) from Ca2Ge7O16 to Tb3+ was confirmed to be much more efficient than the energy transfer of photoluminescence process. With increasing Tb3+ concentration, the PET efficiency was enhanced and the blue long persistent luminescence (LPL) was accordingly shifted to white-blue. Thermoluminescence spectra show that Tb3+ generates a large amount of suitable traps in Ca2Ge7O16, which bridges the PET from Ca2Ge7O16 to Tb3+, contributing to the improvement of LPL performance. Furthermore, a possible mechanism was illuminated and discussed in detail.
