Abstract

In thiswork,microindentationtestsunderdifferentconditionswereperformedtodeterminetheinfluenceofindentationloadon Young's modulusandmicrohardnessofZrO2 reinforced withAl2O3 particles (ATZ)andAl2O3 reinforced withZrO2 particles (ZTA). Microhardness ofATZandZTAmaterialswasmeasuredusingtraditionalVickersandinstrumentedmicrohardnessmethodsat500, 1000, 1500and2000mNloads.Asfortheinstrumentedmethod,Vickersmicrohardnesswascalculatedfromtheforce-indentationdepth curves byanalyzingtheunloadingsegments,accordingtotheOliver-Pharrmethod.Inthiswaythepossibledifferencesbetweenthetwo methods werecalculated.Furthermore,Young'smodulusateachloadwascalculatedusingtheinstrumentalmethod. The maindifferencesbetweenthetwomethodswereanalyzed,andtheinfluenceoftheloadonthedefinitionofYoung'smodulusin the caseoftheinstrumentalmethodwasstudied.Theresultsindicatedanindentationloadeffectforbothmaterials,ashardnessand Young's modulusincreasebydecreasingtheindentationload
