Temperature impact on hydration of alkali-free liquid accelerator modified cement: A thermodynamic study
Source abstract
Abstract
This study investigates the effects of environmental temperature on the hydration performance of cement paste incorporating an alkali-free liquid accelerator (AF). Experimental results demonstrate that different temperature conditions significantly influence both the setting time and compressive strength of cement paste mixed AF. Notably, increasing the dosage of the AF did not mitigate the adverse effects of low temperature on early strength development. Through comprehensive analysis of paste temperature evolution and GEMS simulations of hydration products, we evaluated the low-temperature performance characteristics of the accelerator. The findings reveal that low-temperature conditions delay C 3 S hydration, consequently retarding early compressive strength development in cement paste. This work provides fundamental insights into the temperature-dependent hydration behavior of alkali-free accelerated cement systems, particularly under low-temperature environments.
