Pollutant migration and purification in recycled aggregate pervious concrete: Mechanisms, experiments, and numerical simulations
Source abstract
Abstract
With the rapid pace of urbanization, road runoff pollution has become one of the major non-point sources adversely affecting water quality. Recycled aggregate pervious concrete (RAPC), characterized by its porous structure and eco-friendly, low-carbon attributes, has been increasingly utilized in wastewater purification applications. This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent research progress on contaminant transport and removal by RAPC, covering underlying purification mechanisms, influencing factors, and experimental outcomes. Particular emphasis is placed on the modeling strategies of pervious concrete and the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. CFD enables the simulation of convective–diffusive transport, dynamic adsorption, and photocatalytic degradation of pollutants. Furthermore, this study proposes an integrated simulation framework encompassing structural generation, multiphysics coupling, and parameter fitting, aiming to provide theoretical support for the material design and long-term purification performance prediction of RAPC systems.
