Response characterization on the microstructure, and mechanical and corrosion behavior of clad rebars of different weld materials
Source abstract
Abstract
Clad rebar is a new bimetal composite material, and optimizing the welding parameters of clad rebars could improve the welding process. The cladding steel was welded with 70S-6 carbon steel (CS), 201 stainless steel (SS), 304 SS, and 2209 duplex stainless steel (DSS). The microstructure of the welded joints of four different types of welding metals was observed using a metallographic microscope, the hardness distribution of the welded joints was measured using a Vickers hardness tester, and the corrosion resistance and corrosion behavior of four types of welding materials were investigated through electrochemical corrosion experiments using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results revealed that the stainless steel welded material at room temperature (25 ℃) had a bainite microstructure, and the transformation product of the 70S-6 CS heat affected zone (HAZ) was westenite. The order of strength in increasing order was 70S-6 CS, 2209 DSS, 304 SS, 201 SS, whereas that of corrosion was 2209 DSS, 304 SS, 201 SS, and 70S-6 CS. However, 2209 DSS welded joints had low potential and poor corrosion resistance, so the welding metals should be of similar carbon content and grade as the base material. Therefore, it is necessary to select the best welding parameters and evaluate the best combination of various welding parameters, which provides a scientific basis for establishing the welding process of clad rebars.
