Specifics of corrosion processes in thermally strengthened rebar
Source abstract
Abstract
This article presents the results of theoretical research on the topic of the corrosion distribution along the cross section of the steel bars based at pre-test results. Mathematical computations are conducted with the purpose of obtaining a convincing theoretical approach pertaining to the corrosion of thermally-strengthened rebar. The results of the previous studies on the thermally strengthened ∅ 20 mm A500S steel bars are used as initial data. On the basis of the conducted theoretical research, three principal mathematical models for corrosion process in steel rebar were formulated, introducing an attempt to describe corrosion layer distribution. Thorough analysis of the marginal models indicated their similarities and differences and, correspondingly, the apriority of their usage. In addition, the experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the accuracy and relevance of the calculation method used. The results of the study show that the assumptions on the corrosion distribution taken in each particular calculating case have a great influence on the results of the steel bar performance. Therefore, the issue of an appropriate corrosion model needs further investigation and development.
