Abstract

Back cover image: Layered O3-phase cathode materials are a powerful aid for sodium-ion batteries to replace lithium-ion batteries, but have hinder their application by poor air and structure stability. In article number CEY270115, Li at al. precise regulate a radial gradient distribution of sodium content, phase structure, and transition metal valence of P/O cathode through precursor-based secondary heterogeneous coprecipitation and solid3-state sintering. this radially continuous P2/O3–O composite constructs a strong oxide impedance layer to suppress Na+/H+ exchange reactions and acid erosion under conditions of 82% humidity and 3330 ppm CO2 concentration to maintain material structural stability and prevent blockage of sodium-ion transport channels. Meanwhile, this radial gradient distribution design effectively mitigate lattice distortions, optimize sodium ion transport of the materials. This approach reveals the transition mechanisms between different hierarchical phases.
