Abstract

Back cover image: The polyolefin separators used in commercial lithium-ion batteries have gradually failed to meet the increasing requirements of high-end batteries in terms of energy density, power density and safety. In article number cey2.378, Sun and co-workers reviewed the state-of-the-art electrospun separators for lithium-based batteries. Nonwoven nanofiber membranes, fabricated via electrospinning technology, are considered a promising candidate for separators due to the controllable microporous structure, wide material applicability, multiple functions available and simple processes. These advantages endow electrospun separators with exceptional performance, making them a key focus of future research.
