PTC PERFORMANCES OF HDPE COMPOSITES FILLED WITH CB PARTICLES TREATED WITH COUPLING AGENTS

Yan‐Ling Luo

Abstract

The PTC(positive temperature coefficient)conducting behavior of the polymer composites using HDPE as a ma- trix and industrial carbon black(CB)as conductive particles were studied. The effect of the type and contents of CB and coupling agents on the performances of the polymer based PTC conductive composite was investigated, and the mechanism of coupling graft was also analyzed. The results showed that the conductivity of the composites filled with carbon black, es- pecially carbon black treated with coupling agents has been remarkably increased and the NTC(negative temperature coef- ficient)phenomenon would decreased. The titanate coupling agents possesses the optimum effect, not only improving the dispersion behavior of carbon black particles, but also heightening the PTC effect. The optimum content of the agent was 1 percentage.
