Materiales cerámicos ligeros

Antonio García Verduch

Abstract

EnglishA review is made of the general methods used in the production of lightweight ceramic materials. A low apparent specific weight can be achieved by. a) Burning of the carbonaceous matter added to the ceramic mixture; b) Proper use of the particle-packing concepts in the preparation of the mixture; c) Evolution of gases at high temperature which yields a vesiculate structure in the pyroplastic state, and; d) Using porous particles in making the mixture. The production of lightweight ceramic forms and lightweight granules are also described. The latter can be used as particulate insulating materials and also as non-plastic components in ceramic bodies.
