Abstract

Due to the laterally elongated shape of linear shaped charges (LSCs), LSCs form a unique line of collapse during detonation. This is because the two flat liners gradually collapse upon detonation and form a line-shaped collapse location followed by the formation of jet. This is different from conical shaped charges (CSCs) where a single point of collapse exists. The liner collapse line (LCL) represents the unique line of liner collapse during the operation of LSCs and provides a way to understand the operation of LSCs and the flight pattern of the jet after collapse. In this context, the typical characteristics of LCL are studied by building an analytical expression regarding the configuration of LCL based on the arc deformation of the LSC liner prior to collapse, and the analytical solution is then compared with a hydrocode simulation to study its feasibility. In addition, two different LCLs from 2,000 and 1,200 gpf LSCs are compared to expand its applicability. All analyses provide somewhat favorable results in a limited range of configurations.
