Abstract

Recent detonation velocity (D) - loading density (Rho sub 0) data for pure explosives have been reviewed and preferred linear D-Rho sub 0 curves selected. The additivity law used was quite successful in both ranges with the exception of high porosity PETN mixtures. The Urizar method of prediction was satisfactory in the low porosity range, but unacceptable in the high porosity range for both pure and mixed high explosives (HE). The Kamlet method was satisfactory for 13 of 15 HE at Rho sub 0 = 1.6 g/cu cm and for 10 of 15 at Rho sub 0 = 1.0 g/cu cm.
