Abstract

Bioluminescent Voltage Indicator Genetically encoded bioluminescent voltage indicators enable the non-invasive imaging of neural activity without the need for external illumination enabling truly wireless operation. However, the need for external substrate addition has limited the use of this approach. In article 2100842, Srinivasan, Theogarajan and co-workers describe an autonomous molecular bioluminescent reporter (AMBER), which overcomes this limitation and demonstrates it by imaging the voltage activity in freely moving C. elegans.
