Advancements in Battery Technology: Beyond Lithium-Ion Batteries

With the groundbreaking work of Alessandro Volta two centuries ago, the world’s first electric battery was introduced [1]. Then the lead-acid battery was developed by Gaston Planté and lithiumion batteries (LIBs) by John B. Goodenough, Akira Yoshino, and M. Stanley Whittingham, followed by the introduction of the first electric battery [2–4]. These hallmark inventions revolutionized portable electronics, paving the way for mobile communication and electric transportation due to favorable energy/power densities and advancements in manufacturing.
