Abstract

Atmosphere visibility (VIS) is important for flight safety. Deriving VIS with high accuracy is a task in the field of atmospheric science. Although ground-based observation is ideal for VIS measurement, large-scale VIS observations must rely on satellite data. In this paper, we propose a new method to retrieve VIS with high accuracy using the aerosol products of the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) and Himawari-8. The Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) was used as the simulation tool. In our method, we used the techniques of data integration and Kriging interpolation in the VIS retrieval for the first time. It was demonstrated that our results of VIS have high accuracy. Our method is useful in aerosol characterization and atmosphere monitoring.
