Fatigue life of axially loaded clamped rivet-nut joints: Experiments and analyses
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract The present study evaluates fatigue response of clamped rivet-nut joints with hollow plates subjected to cyclic loads. Finite element analysis was developed to (i) account for the induced residual stress at the hole edge due to clamping force, and (ii) evaluate the local stresses on the joint induced over applied loading cycles. The local stress and strain determined through FE analysis were utilized to predict fatigue lives of joints on the basis of original and modified Smith–Watson–Topper damage models. Predicted lives closely agreed with experimental data as stresses at mid-surface and hole edge were maximized.
