Abstract
Cover Photograph: The Gladstone-Dale relation is an empirical formula which relates the composition, density, and index of refraction of a material. In order to examine the relation's validity to be used as a predictive model for oxide glasses, index of refraction data from the literature on over 700 unique compositions measured at different wavelengths was collected and reported. A linear trend was observed by plotting the experimental index of refraction of the glasses vs. the index of refraction calculated using the Gladstone-Dale relation. For further information see “The Gladstone-Dale relation: Applications in oxide glasses”.
