Development of photosensitive slurries and fabrication of alumina components using a cost‐effective liquid crystal display printer
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract Additive manufacturing techniques based on vat polymerization have gained significant attention due to their ability to produce parts quickly and with a good surface finish. However, the major challenge in obtaining high‐quality ceramic parts is the development of stable suspensions with high solid loading and low viscosity. This study evaluated the rheological behavior, stability, and curing depth of photosensitive slurries containing 40 and 50 vol.% of reactive alumina and a polymeric dispersant. Furthermore, Al 2 O 3 parts manufactured by a commercial liquid crystal display–equipped printer were characterized according to their microstructural features and physico‐mechanical properties. After the sintering step, the printed parts achieved a relative density of up to 90.1% and a flexural strength of 74.5 MPa. Some delaminations and flaws were observed in the samples. Nevertheless, these findings provide valuable insights for optimizing the chosen additive manufacturing process and expanding its application in the production of intricate ceramic components.
