Application of air-vortex thread in sewing operation

Authors not provided

Abstract

Attempts have been made to use air - vortex s pun yarn of 30s and 40s count as sewing thread b y using 2.9% and 5.9% concentrations of lubricant. Y arn strength, e l ongati o n, h airiness, dry heat shrinkage , y arn abras i o n , sn a rli n g of y arn after heat setting, loop strength and knot strength of air-vortex spun sewing threads have been studied. It is observ e d t h at the s e wing thread m ade with 5.9% concentration of l ubrican t per f or m s better in comparison to that m a de with 2 .9% lubrication level. Seam strength and efficiency of dif f erent t y pes of seam m ade b y air- v ortex sewing threads have also been s t udied. Flat and la p ped se a ms a re f ound to produce higher se a m str e ng t h and seam efficiency. Seam strength and efficiency improve with increase in the concentration of lubricant in both 30S and 40S yarn. S ewing per f or m a nce of threads has also been ana l y s e d b y tes t ing se a m stren g th, seam efficiency and t hr e ad breakage during se wing.
