Neutron-diffraction study of Bi 12 MO 20 single crystals with sillenite structure (M=Si,Si 0.995 Mn 0.005 ,Bi 0.53 Mn 0.47 )
Source abstract
Abstract
Single crystals of Bi12MO20 oxides have been characterised by neutron diffraction. The compounds crystallise with the cubic sillenite-type structure (space group I23, Z=2), with unit-cell parameter a=10.104(1) A, 10.109(1) A and 10.153(1) A for M=Si,Si0.995Mn0.005 and Bi0.53Mn0.47, respectively. It has been established that in Bi12SiO20 the Wyckoff position 2a with a tetrahedral oxygen environment is fully populated by Si atoms. In Bi12(Bi0.53Mn0.47)O19.7 the position 2a is statistically occupied by Bi and Mn atoms.
