Surface functionalization of Linde F (K) nano-zeolite and its application for photocatalytic wastewater treatment and hydrogen production
Source abstract
Abstract
As a catalyst/catalyst carrier, zeolite was widely utilized in many industrial fields. In this work, the surface of Linde F (K) nano-zeolite was functionalized through Cd and Zn surface adsorption and sulfurization reactions. Reaction product (Z@ZCS) gained both stable adsorption and photocatalytic effects on degrading organic wastewater including methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline. Meanwhile, the Z@ZCS also could steady produce hydrogen under visible light photocatalytic system. First, many characterization methods (XRD, UV–Vis, SEM–EDX, TEM and XPS) were applied to reveal the structural and surface properties of Z@ZCS. It was proved that nano-scaled Zn0.5Cd0.5S was formed on the surface of Z@ZCS and made Z@ZCS obtain strong visible light absorption capacities. Second, the photocatalytic experiments stated that, Z@ZCS displayed excellent photodegradation activities for MB and tetracycline wastewater. Furthermore, Z@ZCS exhibited the capability of hydrogen evolution, and the amount average hydrogen production amount was about 207.5 μmol/g. Mechanism researches (photo-electrochemistry, DFT, radical trapping and ESR) results illustrated that, through the surface functionalization reaction, Z@ZCS gained well photocurrent feedback, lower resistance and suitable energy band structure. For pollutants degradation, the combination of excellent adsorption and photocatalytic performance made photo-generated electrons (e−) and holes (h+) could directly degrade pollutants on the Z@ZCS surface. Appropriate band structure (− 0.75–1.64 V) accelerated photo-generated holes of Z@ZCS displayed definite capability of reducing hydrion to hydrogen in solution.
