Mechanical Behavior and Deformation Mechanism of Aluminum/Gf/Polyamide Laminates Under Dynamic Strain Aging
Source abstract
Abstract
The phenomenon of dynamic strain aging (DSA) restricts the formability of the sheet. Therefore, we have carried out research on the DSA phenomenon of fiber metal laminates in order to avoid the occurrence of this phenomenon. The comparative tensile deformation behavior of the aluminum/Gf/polyamide laminates (Al/Gf/PA TP-FMLs) and AA 2024-T3 was studied to explore the effect of high temperature weakening effect of composites layer on the DSA of TP-FMLs and reveal the underlying mechanism of DSA responsible for the TP-FMLs. First, the DSA of the TP-FMLs was confirmed by the analysis of serrated yielding flow phenomenon. Moreover, the effect of high temperature weakening effect of composites layer on DSA was investigated by characteristic features such as critical strain, stress drop amplitude, drop time, and reloading time. Finally, the mechanism of DSA of the TP-FMLs was revealed by microstructure analysis. The results indicated that the hybrid structure of TP-FMLs hindered the development of DSA, because the high-temperature weakening effect of the FRP layer undermined the function of the stress field transferred to the metal layer. In addition, the weakening of the stress field decreased the increasing rate of the dislocation multiplication density. This led to the occurrence of DSA of TP-FMLs only in the stage dominated by dislocation multiplication density, and this observation was different from that of aluminum alloy dominated by dislocation multiplication and solute atoms. Therefore, although the mechanism of DSA of TP-FMLs was still the interaction between solute atoms and dislocations, dislocation multiplication density was the dominating factor due to the weakening of stress field.
