Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of the porosity of Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) containing copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and aluminum (Al) synthesized by a co-precipitation method with biochar as a hard template on the preferential oxidation of CO (CO-PROX) reaction. Experimental data showed biochar as a hard template promoted structural changes in the LDH, such as 9 to 42 nm increase in pore size, decrease in the copper oxide crystallite size, and increase in metallic area, and enhanced its activity in the CO-PROX reaction. In situ DRIFTS analyses revealed CO was adsorbed on both Cu + and Cu 0 sites and Cu + was the main species during the reaction for all catalysts.
