Remarkable stability of dye in polymer-clay nanocomposite film
Source abstract
Abstract
The immobilization of rhodamine 6G and polyvinylpyrrolidone in a purified bentonite was investigated. Hybrid films were prepared by mixing an aqueous rhodamine 6G-bentonite suspension with aqueous solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone and subsequent casting on the solid substrate. The successful intercalation of the dyes and the polymer into the interlayer space of the bentonite was confirmed by the systematic expansion of the interlayer space. The stability of the rhodamine 6G adsorbed on the purified bentonite with polyvinylpyyrolidone was examined by following the appearance and the spectroscopic characteristics to find superior stabilities upon heating at 300 °C and sunlight irradiation at 150 °C in air if compared with the dye on the purified bentonite (without polymer) and that in the polymer (without bentonite).
