Anisotropic magnetoresistance in non-magnetic Pb2Ru2O6.5 interfaced with spin ice insulator Ho2Sn2O7
Source abstract
Abstract
We report on the magnetotransport properties in the heterostructures composed of metallic Pb2Ru2O6.5 (PRO) and spin ice insulator Ho2Sn2O7 (HSO), fabricated by pulsed laser deposition. These heterostructures exhibit distinctive angle-dependent magnetoresistance (ADMR) features that closely resemble those previously observed in the Bi2Rh2O7/Dy2Ti2O7 system [Ohno et al., Sci. Adv. 10, eadk6308 (2024)], thereby confirming the universality of proximity-induced magnetic coupling at interfaces between non-magnetic metals and spin ice insulators with strong Ising-like anisotropy. By successfully growing epitaxial PRO thin films on yttria-stabilized zirconia substrates, we systematically investigate the thickness dependence of the ADMR effect. Our results demonstrate that the ADMR signal diminishes with increasing PRO thickness on a nanometer scale, indicating that interfacial electronic transport is strongly influenced by proximity to the spin ice layer. This study not only establishes the universality of proximity-induced magnetic coupling across different material systems but also provides insights into the role of conducting layer thickness in this phenomenon. The PRO/HSO heterostructure represents a promising platform for probing spin ice physics and demonstrates the potential of heterointerface engineering for detecting and manipulating complex magnetic states.
