Forming technology affects refractory performance
Source abstract
Abstract
The pressing operation is composed of filling, pressing, measuring and evacuation. Each pressing requires precision in every step to ensure a final product of highest quality. Feeding material into the press and mold cavities is vital for product quality. Material feeding systems with material flow regulators can be designed to accommodate any material in the refractory industry, up to a temperature of 150 C. The material is continuously mixed and homogenized during the entire mold-filling operation so that a uniform fill of all cavities is ensured. Programmable parameters--such as number and direction of rotations, amount of material to be filled and positioning of the mixing tools--allow for easy adaptation to any refractory material, whether processed in single-cavity or multicavity operations. A further advantage of the feeding system is the programming of all switching points and speeds for mold and the charger box movements. If the relative speeds are selected properly, tapered filling and other fill configurations can be achieved with extreme repetitive accuracy.
