Microstructural characterization and performance investigation of high-pressure sintered diamond drill bits
Source abstract
Abstract
To enhance the drilling speed and service life of thin-walled diamond drill bits, this experiment employed high-pressure sintering to reinforce the performance of bits. The study investigated the effects of different high-pressure sintering processes on the physical properties and drilling performance of thin-walled diamond drill bits. Results from mechanical property testing, microstructural characterization, and drilling performance evaluations indicate: Diamonds in high-pressure sintered thin-walled drill bits exhibited varying degrees of thermal damage. The hardness and flexural strength of the metal matrix in the re-sintered diamond bits reached 85.6 HRB and 833 MPa, respectively, representing increases of 7% and 21.4% compared to CHPS samples. Drilling performance tests on high-pressure sintered thin-walled diamond drill bits revealed a 13% increase in drilling speed compared to CHPS bits. Concurrently, the wear rate of the drill bits was significantly reduced, extending both drilling speed and service life.
