Liquid Crystals: Electrically Switchable Diffraction Grating Using a Hybrid Liquid Crystal and Carbon Nanotube‐Based Nanophotonic Device (Advanced Optical Materials 5/2013)
Source abstract
Abstract
T. D. Wilkinson and co-workers demonstrate a hybrid liquid crystal/carbon nanotube-based device which shows the capacity to perform as a switchable diffraction grating. On page 368, a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between two electrodes (patterned into gratings). The bottom electrode consists of a 2D square array of carbon nanotubes on silicon, while the top electrode comprises an ITO-based in-plane switching electrode on glass. The device displays distinct voltage-dependent diffraction patterns due to the two different electrodes.
